YAZ (DROSPIRENONE 3 MG & ETHINYLESTRADIOL 0.02 MG)

WHAT IS USES FOR YAZ(DROSPIRENONE 3 MG & ETHINYLESTRADIOL 0.02 MG)?

Drospirenone is used in combination with Ethinyl estradiol as a birth control pill (oral contraceptive) in women. It is also used for a disease called premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD; severe depression, irritability, and tension just before menstruation), moderate acne, and to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

HOW YAZ(DROSPIRENONE 3 MG & ETHINYLESTRADIOL 0.02 MG) WORKS?

Estrogens diffuse into their target cells and interact with a protein receptor. Target cells include the female reproductive tract, the mammary gland, the hypothalamus, and the pituitary. Estrogens increase the hepatic synthesis of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), thyroid-binding globulin (TBG), and other serum proteins and suppress follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary. Drospirenone is progesterone, and together with estradiol, it can provide contraception by suppressing the release of the ovum (eggs) from your ovary, and interfering with other mechanisms that support the occurrence of pregnancy. It suppresses the natural progesterone in the body and thereby helps in PMDD and acne. Its mechanism of action in the prevention of osteoporosis is not known.

WHAT IS ETHINYL ESTRADIOL AND DROSPIRENONE(YAZ)?

It also causes changes in the cervical and uterine lining making the cervical mucus more viscous thereby making it harder for male sperms to reach the uterus and also for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus wall. This pill is used as a contraceptive method to prevent pregnancy. It is also used in treating moderate acne in women who are above 14 years of age and have started getting their periods, and who also wish to use contraception to avoid pregnancy. Ethinyl estradiol/Drospirenone is also used for alleviating the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), such as depression, anxiety, irritability, concentration troubles, lethargy, changes in sleep patterns or appetite, muscle or joint pain, tender breasts, and weight gain.
