Dutasteride is used for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). This is when the prostate is enlarged in men and causes problems with urinating. Dutasteride is similar to Finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia and Proscar) in the way that it inhibits DHT. Dutas (Generic Dutasteride) shrinks the enlarged prostate over time and brings relief from the symptoms commonly associated with BPH.

Dutasteride is used to relieve symptoms caused due to enlargement of the prostate gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)) and to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention (AUR) and the need for surgery in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

HOW DUTANOL 0.5MG (DUTASTERIDE) WORKS?

Dutasteride belongs to a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It works by blocking the production of a natural substance (dihydrotestosterone) that enlarges the prostate.
WHAT IS DOSAGE FOR DUTANOL 0.5MG (DUTASTERIDE)?

Take dutasteride exactly as directed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water and swallow the Tablets whole. Do not chew, crush or break the Tablets. Dutasteride can be taken with or without food.

WHAT IS SIDE EFFECTS FOR DUTANOL 0.5MG (DUTASTERIDE)?

Dutasteride side effects include impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection), a decrease in libido (sex drive), breast enlargement and tenderness (gynecomastia), a decrease in the amount of semen released during sex. These side effects usually decrease or disappear with continued usage, or stopping the medication altogether.

WHAT IS PRECAUTIONS FOR DUTANOL 0.5MG (DUTASTERIDE)?

Do not stop taking dutasteride without first talking to your doctor. While some men have fewer problems and symptoms after 3 months of treatment with dutasteride, a treatment period of at least 6 months is usually necessary to see if treatment with dutasteride will be beneficial. Women who are or who may become pregnant must not handle dutasteride Tablets. The medication can be absorbed through the skin and may cause birth defects in the unborn baby. Do not donate blood until at least 6 months have passed since the last dose of dutasteride is taken to prevent pregnant women from receiving dutasteride through blood transfusion.

WHAT IS EXPERT ADVICE FOR DUTANOL 0.5MG (DUTASTERIDE)?
Do not start or continue furosemide and consult your doctor:
  • If you have liver disease.
  • If you have to undergo a prostate-specific antigen assay.
  • If you notice breast enlargement and tenderness.
  • If a woman comes in contact with leaking dutasteride Tablets she should Wash the affected area immediately with soap and water.
Use a condom during sexual intercourse. Do not donate blood while taking dutasteride and for at least 6 months after your treatment ends. Dutasteride can be carried in the blood and could cause birth defects if a pregnant woman receives a transfusion with blood that contains dutasteride. Consult your doctor if you notice an unusual rash, swelling in your mouth, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.
